2024 Grand Marshal

Michael Kreger

Michael Kreger Bio:

I had visited Rainier many times throughout my childhood and my younger adult years. Due to injuries sustained on the job, I was forced to retire early due to permanent disabilities. This gave me the opportunity to move to Rainier in June 2004. In 2005, I met Kitty and we eventually married in 2009. We have four daughters, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. I stay active in the community with non-profit organizations and volunteering. I am your current City Council President and REDCO Board President as well. I was on the planning commission for five years before becoming a City Councilor in 2016. I have served as an officer and as a board member for the Rainier Chamber of Commerce. I am also a trustee for the Rainier Eagles. I assist with the HOPE food bank, senior center, VFW, cemetery district, Masonic Lodge where I oversee the reading incentive program at Hudson Park Elementary which is sponsored by the Masons, and Rainier Days in the park as a board member 2011-2014 and since 2016 as co-Parade Coordinators with my wife Kitty. Kitty and I started the new non-profit Rainier Winterfest in 2023. We have been involved in the annual tree lighting event since 2008. In February of this year, I was presented with 2023 “Community Member of the Year” award at a special Chamber of Commerce meeting. Prior to coming to Rainier, I was employed as truck driver /instructor, Construction, tactical officer, management, food service. I am a US Navy veteran, serving on submarines as well as surface ships. I also spend a lot of time working with other non-profit organizations outside of Rainier, including Masons, Shriners, and numerous others. I am deeply honored to be chosen as the Grand Marshal this year and so happy to have made Rainier my home town.
